Never flown a helicopter before? You're in the right place.

Every helicopter pilot starts exactly where you are now.

Whether you've dreamed about flying for years or you've only recently become interested, learning to fly is more achievable than most people think. You don't need any previous experience, aviation knowledge or special skills—just an interest in flying and a willingness to learn.

The first step is simply finding out if helicopter flying is right for you.

What is a Trial Introductory Flight?

A Trial Introductory Flight is your first flying lesson.

Before the flight, your instructor will introduce you to the helicopter, explain how the controls work and talk through what you'll be doing.

Once airborne, you'll have the opportunity to take the controls and experience flying the helicopter under the guidance of your instructor.

It's relaxed, informative and designed to give you a genuine introduction to helicopter flying.

Whether you decide to continue training afterwards is entirely up to you.

Your journey starts here

Learning to fly isn't as complicated as many people imagine.

Everyone follows the same basic pathway.

Visit Tyabb Airport. Come and meet your instructor, ask questions and see the helicopter.

Trial Introductory Flight. Experience helicopter flying and take the controls.

Start Training. Choose the licence that best suits your goals.

Fly at Your Own Pace. Train around your work, family and lifestyle.

Achieve Your Goal. Whether that's recreational flying, owning a helicopter or pursuing a professional career.

What happens on the day?

Your first lesson is designed to be enjoyable and informative.

A typical Trial Introductory Flight includes:

  • Meeting your instructor
  • A walk around the helicopter
  • A safety briefing
  • An introduction to the flight controls
  • Flying with your instructor
  • An opportunity to take the controls
  • Time afterwards to ask questions about training and licences

There is no pressure and no expectation that you'll continue training afterwards.

The goal is simply to let you experience helicopter flying for yourself.

Can anyone learn?

In most cases, yes.

People begin helicopter training for many different reasons. Some are working towards a career, while others simply want to fly recreationally.

You don't need:

  • Previous flying experience
  • Aviation knowledge
  • A pilot licence
  • A medical certificate before your first flight

If you're unsure whether helicopter flying is right for you, we're happy to answer your questions before you book.
